This is a very beautiful vase with a rare shape and superb decoration in iron-red and gilt enamels. The vase has an elaborate pear form with a flat lobed body tapered toward a splayed foot ring and rising to a flared neck. Two stylized dragon ears are attached to both sides of the upper neck. On each side of the main body is a panel painted with a scholar and two playful children in there respective study decorated withpainting tables and literati's items. The paintings on each panel was executed in fine gilt and iron-red enamels with all details elaborately finished. The reserve space is decorated with stylized dragon among Buddhist eight treasures. The interior and the shallow recessed base are covered with finely crackled turquoise enamel. An Imperial Qianlong six-character seal mark is inscribed in iron-red reserved by turquoise enamel. This is a truly beautiful Imperial Vase with sumptuous Gilt and red decoration. The magnificent vase is in excellent condition except for minor gilt wear and enamel staining as photographed.
