This is a large Imperial vase from Qianlong period with a rare hexagonal shape and beautiful fambe glaze. The six-sided vase sits on a bracketed foot rising to a wide belly and a waisted neck which is flanked by a pair of tubular handles. The massive vessel is covered overall with a brilliant raspberry red colored glaze with lavender streaking and variegated patches. The deep base is carved with a six-character Qianlong Imperial seal mark beneath a brownish green glaze. The glaze stops unevenly at the unglazed foot rim with some glaze adhered to the bottom now broken off. There several chips and cracks associated with the broken-off glaze at the foot rim. There is also a short kiln gap at the foot rim as photographed. Other than the typical chipped glaze and foot rim, this magnificent vase is in excellent condition with a superb glaze. A smaller vase with slightly different proportion was sold by Sotheby's Hong Kong in April, lot#2974. Catalog entry is photographed as reference. In order to demonstrate the massive size of this beautiful vase, we have photographed it alongside a fountain pen (not included in this sale) for size comparison.
