Beautiful Carved Wood Dragon Panel, Early Qing Dynasty

We are offering a very beautiful carved wood panel from the early Qing or perhaps Ming Dynasty. The rectangular panel was carved from a single piece of thick wood slab. A fierce four-claw dragon among clouds and churning waves is carved in high relief on the front side. The back side is flat and plain. The carved surface retains most of the original red lacquer and is covered with fine patina only seen on old wood surface. This beautiful panel must have been part of a magnificent furniture, perhaps a large cabinet. The wood is some type of soft wood (not hardwood) which we are unable to identify. Except for normal surface wear and age cracks, this wonderful carved dragon panel is in excellent condition.
