Rare Korean Inlaid Punch'ong Jar, Choson, 15th Century



We are offering this fine and rare early Choson Period Punch'ong jar with inlaid decoration. The small jar has a slightly curled mouth rim and three loop handles on an ovoid body rising from a small foot rim. The central band of the body is decorated with three fish swimming among stylised bubble motif. Several horizontal decorative bands surround the exterior with respective motif of stamped chrysanthemum florets, geometric roundels, grass scrolls, etc. The decorative patterns were achieved by inlaid of pure white slip into gray stone ware body under a clear glossy glaze. The shallow base is unglazed with clear circular paring mark. Except for a minute rim chip and some glaze wear, this lovely Punch'ong inlaid celadon jar is in excellent condition with a pristine glaze.
