Rare Copper-Red Glazed Plate, Kangxi Mark & Period

This is an early Qing Dynasty Imperial plate from the Kangxi period of a plate glazed with highly vitrified copper-red glaze. The shallow plate has a flared mouth and a large center well. Except for the base inside the foot ring, it is covered with a brilliant red glaze with variegated shadings of red as the glaze pools and thins at various areas. The glaze is glassy due to the high temperature vitrification and is crackled on the surface layer. As usually found on Imperial high-fired red-glazed porcelains, the white-glazed has an undulated surface such as that of an orange peel. The base is inscribed with an Imperial Kangxi six-character mark within a double ring. There is a very faint hair line crack associated with the glaze crackle on the foot rim. Other than the foot rim hair line crack, the rare and beautiful Imperial red plate is in excellent condition.
Size: diameter; 18.2cm; height: 4.0cm
