Early Blue-and-White Miniature Box, Xuande Mark & Period

We are offering a fine early Mind Dynasty Imperial blue-and-white covered box decorated with dragons from the Xuande period (1426 to 1435 A.D.). The small box is in the shape of a thick flat pellet with a shallow cover and taller base. The top convex surface of the cover is painted with a hovering five-claw dragon among clouds. The side wall of the cover is lined with a band of continuous scroll vines. The outside wall of the box is painted with two striding dragons among clouds. The flat base is inscribed with a six-character Imperial Xuande mark within a double-ring. This fine early Ming box is decorated with distinctive heaping-and-pile vivid cobalt blue pigment under a typical white glaze with bluish tint. The cover of the box has suffered from a long crack across the entire interior and exterior wall. Other than the long crack as photographed, this lovely box is in excellent condition with pristine glaze and beautiful painting.
