Up for auction is a very large and fine carved celadon plate from 14th Century Longquan kiln. The thickly potted plate has a shallow rounded side rising to a slanted flat rim. The interior is decorated with free-hand carving of a central flower roundel. The side cavetto is carved with two large peony flowers and leaves. The flat rim is carved with two long scrolls on each side. The exterior is left plain without decoration. The base has a band of unglazed area which exposes the gray stone ware body burnt orange-brown at firing. Except the unglazed band at the base for kiln support, the entire plate is covered with a thick celadon glaze of even plum green color. Except for surface wear at the mouth and foot rim, this large celadon plate is in excellent condition with beautiful carving and a pristine glaze of even and superb color rarely seen on large Longquan vessel.
