We are offering this rare Choson period Maebyong produced by one of the thousands of provincial kilns in 16th Century. The heavily potted vase has a large ovoid upper body and a constricted lower body rising from a sharply splayed foot.. The vase is topped with a small mouth rim and a short neck. The center of the exterior is decorated with three circular panels each respectively decorated with Willow tree, Pine leaves, and lotus flowers. The three panels are reserved in a sea of waves within a horizontal band. The shoulder and the lower foot sections are encircled with bands of stylised vertical leaves as border decoration. The decorative patterns were achieved by inlaid of white, black slip and iron-brown pigment in gray stoneware body under a clear bluish-gray glaze. The flat base is unglazed to expose the hard gray stoneware fired on quartz particles. This beautiful vase is a good example of Choson potter's skill in executing inlaid decoration with individual vitality and confidence. This rare vase is in excellent condition.
