Punch'ong Inlaid Wine Bottle, Choson, 15th Century

This is another fine and genuine Korean ceramics item from our extensive collection accumulated in the past 40 years. The bottle vase has a pear-shaped body of the Chinese Yuhuchun form. The main decorative motif is four panels decorated respectively with winter and summer willow trees separated by respective panels of falling rain and snow. The bottom is adorned with a band of jagged vertical leaves. The shoulder and the lower neck area is surrounded by bands of continuous scroll and vertical lines. The decoration was accomplished by elaborate inlaid of white and black slip under a finely crackled grayish green glaze. The base is unglazed and exposes the coarse gray stoneware body burnt slightly red. Except for an area of degraded glaze at one side of the lower section, this rare and beautiful inlaid celadon wine bottle is in good condition.
Size: height: 17.6cm; body diameter: 12cm
