Slip-painted Celadon Bottle, Koryo, 12th Century

We are offering this small celadon bottle from the Koryo Dynasty with fine underglaze black slip painting. The small ovoid body rises to a constricted neck and a short mouth lip. A simple branch of scrolling leaves is painted under the glaze at each side of the shoulder. The painting demonstrates the Korean potter's unpretentious treatment of decoration with his confident free-hand delineation of natural objects. The bottle is completely covered except the spur at the foot ring with a clear grayish blue glaze. Glaze at the base and the lower part of one side is degraded from long burial. Except for some minor glaze gaps and the degraded glaze patches, this rustic but beautiful bottle is in good condition. This is a no reserve auction with a low starting bid, please grab this chance to own a piece of genuine and tasteful Korean ceramics.
Size: height: 9.9cm; body diameter: 9.4cm
