Blue-and-White and Copper-Red Vase, Choson, 19th Century

This is a very rare and fine blue-and-white vase with copper-red enhanced decoration from the late Choson Period. The vase has a globular body and a short tubular neck. One side of the body is sparsely decorated with a beautiful water plant painted in pale underglaze cobalt blue enhanced with copper-red pigment under the glaze. The other side is similarly decorated in cobalt blue and copper-red pigments with a single cloud motif. A single blue line circles around the body to delineate the waterline. The foot ring is lined with double blue lines. The foot rim is unglazed to show its coarse body with burnt orange lines at edges. The glaze is of clear white with distinct celadon color. Other than a foot rim chip at the unglazed foot rim as a result of a kiln fault, this minimalistic decorated vase is in excellent condition.
H. 26.4 cm; body diameter: 17.8cm
