Chinese Celadon Mallet Vase, Ming Dynasty

This is a rare and beautiful Chinese celadon vase from the southern kiln of Longquan. The vase is of the classic mallet shape is a popular shape for the Song Dynasty ceramics. The elegantly potted vase has a dish-shaped mouth on top of a long cylindrical neck and a tapered barrel body. The precise proportion of each section makes this vase a beautiful stand alone sculpture. The glaze is of thin and transparent grayish green color. There are a few small black dots scattered on the glaze surface to add to the beauty of this rustic yet classic vase. The unglazed foot ring shows the gritty white body. Based on the type of glaze and its shape, we date this lovely vase to early Ming dynasty of 15th Century or earlier. The vase is in excellent condition.
