Fine Blue-and-White Vase, 19th Century or Earlier

We are offering a very fine and beautiful Chinese blue-and-white vase with delicate painting of peony flowers floating in water waves. The exterior of the pear-shaped vase is completely covered with pale underglaze cobalt blue line drawing. The upper side of the trumpet mouth is decorated with two plum blossom branches in darker blue. The foot ring is unglazed exposing the orange porcelain body. The base inside the foot ring is covered with thin glaze. The rare decorative motif and the pale blue pigment create a zen-like floating scene which has never appeared in other Chinese blue-and-white pieces before. We could not find any similar example, therefore it is dated to be from 19th Century or earlier. Other than a few glaze chips at the mouth rim, the vase is in excellent condition.
Size: Height: 29.8cm; Mouth rim diameter; 9.2cm; Foot rim diameter; 8.8cm; Widest diameter: 15.3cm
