Fine Dragon Bronze Mirror, Warring States Period



This is an important Chinese antiquities items from the Warring States Period(476-206 B.C.). The unusually large bronze mirror is decorated with three stylized striding dragon on a background of tiny raised dots and bands of continuous key frets. A knob with three raised ribs within a circular ring is located at the center of the moulded decoration. All decoration is crisp and clear, which indicated that this bronze was cast from a fresh mould. The mirror side is retains most of its original silver coating with mottling from corrosion. A small cavity, which does not penetrate through, from corrosion is located close to the rim. The bronze surface is covered with green cuprite encrustation and fine silvery patina. Other than a small corroded cavity, the beautiful bronze mirror is in excellent condition.
