Korean Blue-and-White Cup, Choson Period



Up for auction is a rare Korean blue-and-white wine cup from late Choson Period (19th Century). The small cup is of an inverted bell shape supported on an unglazed foot ring with adhered sand. The exterior is decorated with a blossoming orchid plant and a flowering plum branch painted in pale underglaze cobalt blue. A "Fu" character in archaic style is inscribed in the center of the interior. The decoration is superbly painted with elegant literati taste. The rare cup is in excellent condition except for a few glaze cracks at the rim and some glaze wear in the interior.
