Fine Famille Rose Stem Bowl, Guangxu Mark & Period



This a rare late Qing Dynasty Imperial stem bowl decorated with famille rose palette from the Guangxu Period. The low rounded bowl is supported on a short stem with a splayed foot and a center gilded raised rib. The exterior of the bowl is painted on one side with a striding five-claw dragon in iron-red and gilt enamels. The other side is a flying phoenix painted in various enamels. A center gilt flaming pearl separates the dragon and the phoenix in a background of cloud and fire motif. The stem is decorated with continuous wave pattern in green and white enamels. The center of the interior is painted with a single gilt pearl surrounded by clouds and flame. Both inside and outside of the mouth rim are lined with a band of key-fret in various-colored enamels. The interior of the stem is glazed except the foot rim. A six-character Imperial Guangxu mark is written horizontally in iron-red enamel inside the edge of the foot ring. Except for some gilt wear at the mouth rim, this beautiful Imperial stem bowl is in excellent condition.
