Gilt Bronze Belt Hook, Han Dynasty

This is a fine Chinese antique gilt bronze belt hook from Han Dynasty (206B.C. to 220A.D.). The belt hook is in the shape of a dragon's head as the hook and a striding Bixie beast on top of the curling dragon body. The front side is covered with rich gilt with malachite encrustation. It is rare to find an early bronze belt hook with gilt, such a large size and superb sculptural quality such as the present example.
