White Jade Dish with carved Fish, Qing Dynasty

This is a fine and elaborately carved jade dish from Qing Dynasty. The large oval-shaped jade slab was laboriously polished into a very thin shallow dish with a flat rim and slightly raised foot rim. The center well is carved in high relief of two fan-tail gold fish swimming in a lotus pond. The flat rim border is incised with fine line into a repeating geometric pattern. The recess area inside the raised foot ring is carved in intaglio with a square four-character Qianlong seal mark . The jade is of even grayish color with celadon tint. The jade surface is well-polished and has developed a fine mellow patina. There is a short crack visible only from the exterior due to inherent jade fissure. The Qianlong reign mark has suffered from a few small chips to the raised characters. Other than the stated condition problems, the beautiful and rare jade dish is in good condition. This dish can be dated to late Qing Dynasty based on its decorative and carving style.
