Yellow Soapstone Artist's Seal, Dated 1742

This is another fine Chinese artist's seal from our collection of works of art from the scholars' desks. The rectangular-shaped soapstone seal is carved with archaic characters which is difficult to decipher. We have provided photo of the seal's impression for your research. The vertical walls of the seal is carved with a continuous scenery of scholar among tree, cliff and houses. A carver's signature and a 8th year of Qianlong Period date ( 1742 A.D.) is carved on one side of the wall. The style of the carving and character on the seal is consistent with the 1742 date. The brownish yellow soapstone has developed fine mellow patina from years of handling. Except for some very minor surface pitting and chips at the edges, this dated seal is in excellent condition.
