Korean Carved and Brown Painted Celadon Dish, Koryo, 12th Century
We are offering a very beautiful and rare early Korean celadon dish with elaborately carved and painted decoration from the 12th Century of Koryo Dynasty. The small saucer dish is slightly warped and has a slanted side and a flat base. The interior is carved with a center floret surrounder by three swimming fish painted in underglaze brown pigment among incised wave pattern. The interior cavetto is carved with Ruyi pattern and small leaves inside each Ruyi. The exterior wall is decorated with six incised leaves. The base inside the slightly raised foot ring has three spur marks with retained original silica particles. The entire surface is covered with an even sea green color celadon glaze of the finest quality typical of the glazed from the peak era of Koryo celadon. The lovely little dish is in excellent condition except for some surface glaze scratches and wear. This is another important Korean ceramics from our extensive collection of Oriental Ceramics acquired in the past 40 years. Size: Diameter: 13.5cm; Height: 2.4cm
