Korean Iron Seated Buddha, Koryo Period



This is a wonderful Korean iron Buddha from the late Koryo Period of 14th Century. The cast iron statue depicts a seated Buddha in a Fearless and Teaching hand positions. The typical large head has a serene facial expression and is topped with curled hair unisas. The Buddha is hollow-cast with thick wall. The surface retains traces of original red and gold lacquer. Other than a small chip at the lower part of the ear lobe, the beautiful Korean cast iron Buddha is in excellent condition. Size: Height: 21.5cm; Width (at the base): 14.7cm; Depth: 11.8cm
