Rare Carved Jade Boulder Snuff Bottle, Qing Dynasty

This is a very fine and beautiful snuff bottle made from a solid jade boulder or pebble with elegant scholarly taste. The natural pebble-shaped bottle is elaborately carved with a scene of three scholars relaxing among scenery of pine trees and towering cliff. The decoration is all carved in fine relief and reticulated openwork. The stone is of white jade with grayish tint and brown veining and patches. The bottle is very well hollowed out with very thin wall. There is a small restored area due to inherent jade impurity. Other than the photographed restoration, the rare jade snuff bottle is in excellent condition. The surface has developed a mellow smooth patina from years of handling. This is a very fine and rare jade carving with pure literati's taste.
