Pair of Doucai Vases, Yongzheng Mark & Period

This is a fine pair of miniature vase decorated with elaborate Doucai technique. Each vase has a flared trumpet neck on top of a bulbous body sitting on a tall and slightly splayed foot ring. The exterior is decorated with lotus flowers of various colors surrounded by vines. The delicate painting is outlined by fine underglaze blue line and filled in with vivid and transparent green, red, yellow, and aubergine enamels of Imperial quality. The base of each vase is inscribed with a six-character Imperial Yongzheng (1723-1735 ) mark in a rare archaic seal form in cobalt blue. One cannot help but noticing the fine painting of lotus flowers where colorful enamels are use in successive thickness to achieve shading of the flower. We have always been fascinated by these beautiful miniature size Chinese Imperial porcelains which demonstrates the superb workmanship of Imperial potters. This pair of Doucai vases is an excellent example of this group.
