Rare Green Dragon Plate, Yongzheng Mark & Period



Up for auction is a fine green-enamelled and underglaze-blue dragon plate from the Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty. The large plate has a deep rounded side. The interior is painted in fine clear green enamel over underglaze blue with a large center dragon amid fire-scroll and cloud in pursuit of a flaming pearl. The exterior side wall is painted in the same manner with two striding dragons chasing flaming pearls. The base inside the deep foot ring is glazed with sightly tinted white glaze and is inscribed with a six-character Yongzheng Imperial mark within a double-ring in underglaze-blue. This is a fine example of Qing Imperial piece following the Ming Dynasty Imperial tradition. The underglaze-blue painting was executed with fine details. The over-painting of clear green enamel precisely covers the decoration. The minute stain spots shown on the photos are accumulated dirt inside deep glaze scratches. Except for glaze and enamel surface wear from use and a barely visible rim hairline crack, this beautiful green dragon plate is in excellent condition. .
