Rare Incised and Gilt Bowl, Qianlong Mark & Period

We are offering this very rare bowl with an unique decorating technique made during the most innovative period of Chinese Imperial porcelain production. This extremely large bowl is heavily potted with a globular shape sitting on a tall foot ring. The exterior was first incised with thin lines by a sharp point tool into a panoramic scenery of pavilions, scholars, and fishermen among vast water and mountains. The incised line was then filled with gilt. This technique of combining incised line with filled-in gilt was used for decorating lacquer during the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. We are offering a good example of that type of lacquer among our ebay listing this week. The resulting decoration is sumptuous with glittering gilt and three-dimensional scene in minute details. The vast space provided by the large round surface also exudes the vastness of the water and mountain scenery. The interior and the base is covered with fine turquoise enamel. The base is inscribed with a six-character Qianlong Imperial seal mark in underglaze cobalt blue. Except for very minor glaze and gilt wear, this magnificent bowl is in excellent condition.

Size: diameter: 24.2cm; height: 11.5cm
