Rare Carved Rock Crystal Vase, Liao Dynasty



This is a rare Chinese antiquities items from our large collection of early Eastern Asian works of art. The small vase is carved out of a solid piece of fine quality clear rock crystal. It was made into a shape consistent with ceramics of the Liao Period in 11th Century Northern China. The elegant vase is carved in low relief with large flowers and broad leaves across the ovoid body. The long neck and the lower part of the vase is further decorated with bands of vertical leaves. The surface is well polished and the interior is evenly hollowed out. There is some dark dirt or original content encrustation on the interior and exterior wall. This lovely early rock crystal vase is in excellent condition.
