Signed Japanese Signed Black Chawan, 19th/20th Century

We are offering this classic Japanese black tea bowl with the collector's signature. The black-glazed tea bowl has a cylindrical shape with uneven surface sitting on an unglazed small foot rim. The glaze is of glossy dark black typical of the Raku kiln. The unglazed lower side wall has a three-character signature in black ink. The base inside the foot ring is marked with a signature in the style of a tea master's insignia or "Kao, painted Impression or seal". A signature is carved into the unglazed wall on the other side. This Chawan is a fine example of Japanese tea bowl for tea ceremony. It is preserved with a silk bag as photographed. The fine tea bowl is in excellent condition.
