Rare Famille Verte Wucai Bowl, 17th Century

Up for auction is a fine early Chinese Wucai, or Famille Verte, bowl inscribed with an apocryphal Chenghua mark. The shallow bowl has a flared rim and a short foot. The interior is decorated with playful birds among flowering plants and rock works. The exterior is similarly decorated with a large long-tailed bird playing with other birds among flowering peony tree on stylized rock. The center of the interior is inscribed with a six-character Chenhua mark encircled by a single ring in underglaze blue. The small flat base with a center well is unglazed to expose fine white porcelain body. Two small rim chips have been restored with traditional Japanese red and gold lacquer repair as photographed. Other than the old restored rim chips, the lovely Wucai bowl is in excellent condition with only minor enamel wear. This bowl was made in China during the transitional period between Ming and Qing Dynasty of 17th Century. It must have been preserved in Japan for use as a tea ceremony Chawan ( tea bowl). This is a no reserve auction with a low starting bid.
