White Jade Box With Reticulated Carving, Qing Dynasty
This is a beautiful and rare jade box with magnificent openwork carving. The dome-shaped cover is intricately carved with a center flower and surrounded with leaves on a background of reticulated holes. The circular box is finely hollowed out with very thin wall. The jade is of fine white jade with small areas of white patches and a few black dots. The cover is of pure and translucent white color while the color of the base is of pale celadon color. There is a small rim crack with an associated small chip at the rim of the cover and a few chips inside the rim of the base. The jade surface has developed a fine patina from age.
