Yellow Ground Blue-and-White Jar, Yongzheng Mark & Period



Up for auction is a very fine and rare Qing Dynasty Imperial small jar decorated with blue-and-white and over-the-glaze yellow and green enamels. This beautiful miniature size jar has an ovoid body and a short mouth rim. The exterior was first decorated with three friends of winter (pine, bamboo, and plum ) painted in cobalt blue. The resulting blue-and-white vessel was painted with yellow enamel for the white background and a band of green enamel on top of the shoulder scroll decoration. The jar was then fire for the second time at a lower temperature. The lovely jar is inscribed with a six-character Yongzheng Imperial mark within a double-ring. The foot rim is unglazed and exposes the silky smooth porcelain body. This combination of cobalt blue and yellow enamel was popular among early Ming Dynasty Imperial wares. Qing Dynasty revival of this type of ware is very rare and highly collectible. Except for very minor surface wear, this wonderful jar is in excellent condition. This is another one of our favorite miniature Chinese Imperial porcelain from our collection acquired more than 30 years ago.
