Beautiful Korean Blue-and-White Vase, Choson Period

This is another important Korean ceramics from our large collection acquired in the past 40 years. The blue-and-white vase has a low ovoid body and a long tapered neck. An orchid plant and a large chrysanthemum flower were painted with cobalt blue pigment in broad strokes. The pure white porcelain body is covered with a beautiful clear glaze of sightly tinted hue. This vase is part of a small group of Korean blue-and-white wares from the Korean Royal court kilns (called Punwon in Kwangju area) of Yi Dynasty. Unlike provincial kiln products of Yi Dynasty, these Imperial kiln wares have very delicate shape and are free from any impurity in the glaze and porcelain body. These wares were made exclusively for use by the Royal court. We can confidently states that this fine blue-and-white vase has a quality rivaling the best Chinese Imperial wares of the 18th Century. This extremely beautiful vase can be dated o the second half of 19th Century. Except for very minimal surface wear and scratches, the vase is in excellent condition.
