Fine Imperial Blue-and-White Vase, Qianlong Mark & Period

This is a very beautiful and large Qianlong Imperial blue-and-white Yuhuchun vase. The large pear-shaped vase has two stylized dragon ears and is elaborately painted in various hues of cobalt blue. The rounded body is painted with a fine children-at-play scene. The painting style is similar to that of Doucai with all children, flowers, and leaves painted by fine pale blue outlines. The vessel was intended to be a stand-alone blue-and-white vase yet retained the flexibility of converting it into a Doucai vase by further enameling. The beautiful central decoration was superbly executed with all details exquisitely painted on a pure Imperial white porcelain surface. This painting on a round porcelain surface can be viewed like a fine hand scroll as the vase turns to reveal the frolicking children in an elegant Chinese garden with scholar's rocks, bamboo, flowers, and banana. The neck is painted with lotus flowers and auspicious bats. The shoulder and the lower body is further adorned with ruyi and lotus pattern motif. The slightly splayed foot ring is painted with a series of floret motif stopped at the bottom with two fine blue lines. The base inside the foot ring is inscribed with a Qianlong six-character Imperial seal mark. Except for a very minor kiln glaze flaw inside the foot ring, this magnificent Qianlong Imperial vase is in excellent condition.
Size: height: 28.3cm; body diameter: 18.2cm; mouth diameter: 8.3cm; foot diameter: 9cm
