Imperial Red Ink Cake, Qing Dynasty



Up for auction is another fine scholar's item of a painter's red pigment ink cake. The red mineral pigment was moulded into an intricate block with young dragon entwined with each other around a center panel on both sides. The central panels on both sides are inscribed with the name of the ink cake and the maker's name. On top of the name of the ink cake's name is a two character "Yu zhi" mark which points to the Imperial connection of this ink cake. We date this fine ink cake to be from 19th century Century. The ink cake is in excellent condition. It is preserved in an old hardwood box with a sliding cover.
