Rare Wood Pattern Dragon Vase, Qing Dynasty

up for auction is a very rare famille rose vase with dragons among imitation wood pattern background from Qing Dynasty. The Yuhuchun shaped vase has a tall foot ring , a rounded body and a widely flared mouth rim. The exterior is painted with three striding five-claw dragons in gilt and black enamels. The reserved ground is covered with a pattern of wood grain painstakingly painted with dark coral-red and black enamels. The resulting image is a striking picture of sumpyuous and majestic quality unique to Qianlong period. The Interior is covered with a fine turquoise enamel. The deep base is glazed white and is inscribed with a two-character mark in blue. The two characters read " Wan Yu, or play with jade". Based on the quality of decoration and the materials used, we date this rare vase to be from Qianlong or Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. This fine famille rose vase is in excellent condition except for a few glaze pinholes from burst bubbles.Size: height: 19cm; body diameter: 10.4cm
