Fine Imperial Yellow Incised Bowl, Xianfeng Mark & Period

This is a fine Imperial yellow bowl from Xianfeng period. The thin bowl has a rounded side rising to a flaring mouth rim. The exterior is finely incised with Buddhist emblems and auspicious border motif under a finely crackled clear glaze of egg yolk yellow color. The interior and the deep recessed base are glazed with fine and slightly tinted white glaze. The base is inscribed with a six-character Xianfeng Imperial mark in blue. The beautiful bowl has a long hairline crack at the rim. Other than the crack, it is in excellent condition with beautiful Imperial yellow glaze. Pure yellow Imperial wares were reserved for the exclusive use for the Emperor and only a few have survived, especially from the short Xianfeng period.
