Blue & Red Calligraphy Brush Pot, Kangxi Date & Period



This is a rare early Qing Dynasty cobalt-blue and copper-red decorated brush pot with beautiful calligraphy and a Kangxi period date of 1684 A.D. The thickly potted brush pot has a wide cylindrical shape. The exterior is covered with a long poem in fine dark cobalt blue pigment under a white glaze with bluish tint. There is a square and a double-gourd seal in copper-red at the end of the poem. A date of the 23rd year of Kangxi period ( 1684 A.D.) is inscribed at the end of the poem. The calligraphy is superb and must have been executed by an accomplished calligrapher. This large and beautiful brush pot is in excellent condition without any damage except for normal glaze wear.
