Early Blue-and-White Winged Dragons Vase, Ming Dynasty

We are offering this rare and beautiful Ming Dynasty blue-and-white vase with winged dragons among stylized waves decoration. The vase has a gallbladder shape with a globular body and a long neck tapered toward a small mouth rim. The tubular mouth is decorated with a band of vertical banana leaves pointing downward. The remaining exterior surface is decorated with two flying winged dragons among swirling waves. The base is glazed white without decoration. The thick foot rim is unglazed with conspicuous marks of potter's paring knife and some glazed-over chips. The cobalt pigment is of grayish blue typical of late 16th or early 17th century period. The mouth rim is covered with restored over-painting for about 2 cm. We can not be certain of how extensive the originally damage was, which can only be determined by x-ray. Except for the restored mouth rim, this magnificent vase is in good condition with pristine glaze and vivid pigment.
