Large Korean Punch'ong Slip-Brushed Bowl, Choson, 16th Century

This is another rare Choson period ceramics from our large collection of Korean ceramics. The unusually large punch'ong thinly potted bowl has a wide flared mouth rim. It is decorated with a brushed slip under the glaze on the exterior. The interior is decorated with a combination of brushed-on slip and stamped and inlaid slip, typically called "Mishima" by Japanese connoisseurs. The bowl was accidentally warped during firing in the kiln, which is a quality favored by Japanese tea masters for this type of Korean Chawans. There are two small repaired chips and associated cracks on this bowl as photographed. Other than the cracks and repaired chips, this rustics and beautiful Korean Chawan is in good condition.
Size: mouth diameter; 18.9cm; height: 8cm
