Up for auction is a rare Choson period vase with artistic decoration of flowers and butterfly executed by white-slip inlaid. The large vase has two flat side walls and a wide mouth rim. The wider sides of the exterior wall are decorated with a large flower plant with a hovering butterfly. The simple line drawing of the elegant flower painting was achieved by fine inlaid of white slip into gray stoneware body under a clear glaze. The vase sits on a shallow foot ring encircling a partly-glazed base with retained spur materials. This is a rare example of early Choson inlaid celadon vessel which preserved the elegance of Koryo celadon but also demonstrated the individual energy of Choson potters. This is an item for those collectors who understand the quality and vitality of Choson Punch'ong ware fully realized by this magnificent vase. This large vase is in excellent condition with only minor kiln glaze gap as photographed.
