Rare Carved Celadon Bowl, Ming Dynasty

This is an early Chinese celadon bowl from the Southern kiln of Longquan in China. The thickly-potted bowl has a rounded side rising to a flared mouth rim. The exterior is carved under the glaze with two sprays of pomegranate flower and fruit respectively on each side. The interior is plain without decoration. The entire surface short of a wide ring inside the foot rim is covered with a fine and even olive green color of superb quality. Based on the shape and the quality of the glaze, this fine bowl can be dated to late Yuan to early Ming Dynasty. This fine Longquan celadon bowl is in excellent condition. It has been preserved in an old Japanese style wood box with an inscription outside the cover. Apparently, this bowl was used by previous collectors as a chawan for tea ceremonies.
