We are offering this rare Qianlong period Doucai vase with an unusual flat flask shape decorated with beautiful narrative scenes. The flask was ingeniously potted into a stylized fan shape with two archaic dragon handles on each side of the short neck. The main flat panel on each side of the exterior is decorated with scholars and attendants by the sea shore among towering pine trees and stylized rocks. The sun rises in distant sea from high churning waves under colorful clouds and flying cranes. The side panels, the neck, and the splayed foot are decorated with elaborate lotus flowers and scrolls. All decoration were delicately painted with clear enamels and fine cobalt blue outlines typical of 18th Century Imperial Doucai wares. On each side of the neck is attached with an iron-red painted archaic dragon in stylized form. The rectangular base inside the foot is inscribed with a Qianlong Imperial six-character seal mark in cobalt blue. The rectangular foot rim is flat and burnt orange color. Except for some glaze pool defect at the edge of the foot rim and minor surface wears, this rare large doucai flask with narrative scene is in excellent condition.
