Archaic Style Bronze Vase, Ming Dynasty



We are presenting this wonderful Chinese bronze vessel with an elegant shape and elaborate decoration from the Ming Dynasty. The vase is an imitation of early Chinese archaic vessel with its elongated Zun shape and delicate Taotie masks in moulded relief. The entire surface is covered with fine chestnut brown patina with patches of natural and artificial cuprite encrustation. This is an extremely fine replica of early archaic bronze by Ming Dynasty craftsman. Items like this were popular among Ming Dynasty literati elites and Japanese tea ceremony practitioners of the 16th and 17th Centuries. This particular vase must have been used by early Japanese tea masters as a flower vase during tea ceremonies. It is preserved in an old Japanese Kiri wood box with an old label indicating it as an old bronze flower vase. This beautiful vase is in excellent condition except for a few surface pits from casting flaw. It is indeed a magnificent and tasteful Chinese bronze vessel from Ming Dynasty and should not be missed by any serious collector of fine Chinese works of art.
