Fine Famille Rose Plate, Late Qing Dynasty

This is one of the most beautiful Qing Imperial porcelains from our collection. The large famille rose plate is delicately painted in famille rose palette with two white-head birds interacting with each other on top of a blossoming peach tree among chrysanthemum and bamboo groves. The details of the painting is superb, which rivals the best enamel on porcelain (or Falangcai by Chinese scholars) pieces from the 18th century Imperial workshops. A four-character Yongzheng mark within a double-square is painted in blue enamel inside the foot rim. Judged by the quality of the glaze and the enamel, it is safe to date this magnificent plate to be from the Qing Dynasty imperial kiln of 19th Century or earlier. Except for a minute glaze chip at the mouth rim, the large plate is in excellent condition. There is some accumulated glaze drip at the foot rim which is rough to touch. Nevertheless, the porcelain body exposed at the unglazed foot ring is silky smooth to touch. Mouth rim diameter: 24.4cm; Height: 5cm
