Japanese Theater Noh Mask, Edo Period

This is the third Noh mask we are offering from our collection. Unlike the newer Noh mask of the same young woman subject, this mask has a much finer facial features of ancient beauties. The small red lips, the longer rounded nose, and the precisely delineated eye profile demonstrate the aesthetic value of this classic mask. One other important feature of this older mask is that the hair is depicted by finely carved lines instead of just painted hair. Despite some restoration and lacquer peel to the surface, the wood body is in excellent condition. The backside is covered with a thin layer of balck lacquer. This old and rare Noh mask can be appreciated as is or can be restored by a professional restorer to bring back its original splendor.
Size: Height: 23cm; Width: 14cm; Depth: 7cm
