We are offering a delicate Chinese lacquer from the late Ming to Qing Dynasty.
The mother-of-Pearl inlaid saucer is modelled into a rare square shape with elegant foliate corner. The interior is intricately inlaid with minute mother-of-pear chips and thin foils into a magnificent picture which can rival the best ink painting of earlier Dynasties. Towering mountains rising from vast water sets the main theme while two conversing scholars under delicately depicted tree on the water bank demonstrates the grandeur of the workmanship on this tiny saucer. A three-character mark in archaic calligraphy is inscribed on top of the picture. The border is further decorated with continuous minute florets and Ruyi motif. The mouth rim is lined with an original protective silver band. The base is supported on each corner with a shallow foliate foot. A beautiful flower branch in fluorescent mother-of-pearl is inlaid in the middle of the base. The dish is in excellent condition except for some very minor surface lacquer cracks and chip. There is virtually no inlaid material loss. This is the best preserved antique Lac Burgaute piece we have ever seen. It came from an old Japanese collection and has been preserved in a Japanese fabric bag and a later fitted wooden box.
