Gilt Bronze Seated Buddhist Statue, 12th Century

This is an extremely beautiful gilt bronze Buddhist statue of a Guanyin seated in a royal ease position. The finely modelled statue depicts the beautiful Buddhist icon, Guanyin, with a elaborate and tall head gear, long pleated hair, solemn yet serene facial expression, slender body with delicately engraved robe, and superb sculptural quality. The small but powerful statue is covered with rich gilt which is amazingly intact after all this years. Judged from the circular peg in the back, the statue might have been originally part of a larger Buddhist altar piece. Base on the style of the head gear and the slender and tall body of this statue, it can be dated to the 12th Century from the Dali Kingdom of Yunan area in Southern China. This is a very rare statue from an area with unique sculptural heritage. Except for the slightly bend right hand, this beautiful sculpture is in excellent condition. It is fitted with a custom-made wood stand.
Size: Height (with the stand): 12cm, (without the stand): 10.5cm; Width: 6.8cm
