Huanghuali Statue of A Scholar, 18th Century

We are offering a fine small statue of a seated scholar carved from Huanghuali wood. The elegant wood carving for the scholar's desk depicts a scholar sitting in a relaxed position while his left hand leans on a barrel-shaped stool. The statue is extremely fine with all details of garment folds, fingers, and facial/body contours delicately and elegantly finished. The hardwood surface is well-polished with a mellow reddish patina developed from years of handling. There is a crack and a few restored small old cracks at the base as photographed. An inherent wood defect at the shoulder is filled with old repair material. Other than those defects, the Huanghuali wood statue is in very good condition. This is a very elegant statue we would recommend for serious collectors of scholar's art.
