White Jade Eagle, Liao/Jin Dynasty
This is a beautiful jade carving from the Liao (907-1125 A.D.) or Jin ( 1115-1234 A.D.) Dynasty of Northern China. The solid jade pebble was carved into an eagle playing with three baby eagles in fine and detailed openwork carving. The jade is of white color with grayish tint and minor black spots and patches. The decoration and jade carving style is consistent with other documented archaeological artifacts from those periods found in Northern China. The jade surface demonstrates a fine patina typical of old excavated jade. The solid jade piece is excellent for hand fondling or as a paper weight. Except for a natural jade fissure, this white jade eagle is in excellent condition.
