Incised Dragons and Red Bats Plate, Qianlong Mark & Period

This is a very beautiful Qing Imperial porcelain from a rare group of ware imitating the early Ming dynasty white pieces with delicate and barely visible underglaze incised decoration. The deep plate has a flared flat rim. A band of small stylized bats motif was painted in iron red enamel around the rim. The remaining area in the interior and the exterior wall were delicately incised under the glaze with striding five-claw dragons chasing flaming pearls and a center longevity roundel. The delicately incised decoration is barely visible and thus called "Anhua, or Hidden Decoration" by Chinese ceramics connoisseurs. The decoration is extremely difficult to photograph and we had to place a small piece of paper on the surface to help with focusing closeup shots. There are also a few closeup photos which have to be manipulated to show the incised decoration. The white glaze is of sweet white type with a ivory and slightly bluish tone. The base is inscribed with a six-character Qianlong seal mark in underglaze cobalt blue. The unglazed foot ring exposes the silky smooth porcelain body. One has to hold and view this exquisite plate in person to appreciate its full beauty. The magnificent plate is in excellent condition with no condition problem.
