Pair of Famille Rose Cups, Guangxu Mark & Period

Up for auction is another fine pair of small cups decorated in famille rose palette fro the late Qing Imperial kiln of Guangxu Period. The bell-shaped wine cups were made to be a matching pair to each other with its dragon facing each other when placed side by side. Each cup is painted with a single dragon chasing the flaming pearl among waves, stylized clouds and a leaping carp. The dragon was painted with iron red and fine gilt. The cloud motif is unusual for its stylized design and fine blue enamel. The base of each cup is inscribed with a six-character Imperial Guangxu mark in cobalt blue. The foot ring is unglazed with brownish stain. Some glaze accumulates at the edge to make the foot rim a little rough to touch. Other than some gilt rub-off at the mouth rim, the pair of cups are in excellent condition. It comes with a modern Japanese lacquer box with inlaid mother-of-pearl decoration.

Size: height: 4.4cm; mouth diameter: 6.6cm
